The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has asked the ASP Criminal Investigation Division (CID) to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred near Prairie Grove at about 3:20 a.m. on November 12, 2023.
Responding to a domestic disturbance call to a residence on Jim Hall Road, deputies encountered 46-year-old Ismael Fernandez as they approached the home. According to witnesses, deputies fired on Fernandez after he pointed a handgun at them.
Fernandez was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center. No officers were injured.
Two deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave while the Sheriff’s Office conducts an internal review.
An investigative case file will be presented to the prosecuting attorney, who will determine whether the use of deadly force by officers was consistent with Arkansas law.
