The Department of Public Safety and the Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training oversee the Criminal Detention Review Committees office and unit. The Review Committees and staff work to be a positive partner and a reliable resource for each community and agency.
The unit’s primary objective, by statute, is to conduct annual evaluations of each jail, adult detention facility, and juvenile detention center according to current standards. Additionally, the unit provides technical assistance and support services across various areas and initiatives.
Arkansas is divided into eight geographic districts, each served by a Facility Review Committee. The Governor appoints the Review Committee members. The unit also works to assist facilities in resource acquisition, timely training, and other essential services to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
