EAST CAMDEN, Ark. — During their regular May meeting, the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training (CLEST) voted to reactivate the City of Hughes Police Department.
Earlier in April, the Division of Law Enforcement Standards and Training deactivated the department, removing the department from service for being out of compliance with Arkansas law enforcement standards.
Division officials met with the Hughes Mayor Lincoln Barnett on April 19th, 2024, to discuss the necessary steps to bring the department back into compliance.
On Thursday, May 9, 2024, Mayor Barnett detailed actions taken to resolve non-compliance, and the Commission unanimously voted to reinstate the police department.
