Every unresolved case represents a person,
along with their family, friends and community.
A cold case is defined as a homicide or long-term missing person case that remains unsolved for two years or more, after being reported to law enforcement, and has no viable and unexplored investigatory leads.
ASP Cold Case Unit
The purpose of the ASP Cold Case Unit, which was formed in 2020, is to ensure that each homicide or missing person case is held in a contemporary status.
ASP maintains a Cold Case Unit within Special Operations of the Criminal Investigations Division compromised of Special Agents assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division and retired law enforcement officers dedicated to resolving cold case investigations.
The ASP Cold Case Unit is only able to review cold cases originally initiated by ASP. Our Cold Case Unit does not have jurisdiction to look into cases solely investigated by local agencies, without a formal request from the agency of jurisdiction.
